Acceptable use

Version 1.0, published on 5 October 2026

In brief. These rules apply the Terms of use to fieldwork, confidentiality and source materials. Use your own account, respect meeting restrictions and share research data only with authorised recipients. Record delegations and roles rather than delegate names, and make no audio or video recordings or photographs of delegates. Report a suspected breach promptly to contact@bracketresearch.org.

1. Observations and meeting conditions

Write the Party, negotiating group or role, including for chairs and co-facilitators. Do not put an individual delegate's name in a note, quotation, meeting title, access note or chat. Review name warnings and correct inappropriate identifiers; a lack of warning does not establish that the text is safe to share. Avoid combinations of details that identify someone unnecessarily.

Do not copy delegate identities from published reporting into the team's observations or a separate list. Cite the source by issue and page. Citing a published author by name remains normal academic practice. Attribute quotations from field notes to delegations or groups, subject to the meeting's confidentiality conditions, rather than to named delegates.

Do not record audio or video of meetings or photograph delegates, whatever device or application you use. A photograph of a projected text or a document you are entitled to hold is permitted. Respect requests to leave and restrictions on disclosure. Do not report live from a closed or restricted meeting to people outside the authorised group. Distinguish hearsay from observation and mark information from a closed room as closed.

2. Research data and collaborators

Share notes, exports and research reports only with authorised programme researchers or named collaborators under the project's written handling conditions. A supervisor or co-author does not automatically have access; ask the project owner before sharing research data with them. Membership alone does not grant access to other researchers' notes or the collated dataset.

You may use your own notes in your thesis or papers under the Terms of use. This permission does not permit redistribution of the collated dataset or disclosure of another contributor's work. Public dataset release requires a separate decision and is outside the current arrangements.

Keep downloaded data secure and follow the access, retention and deletion conditions set for you. Do not try to identify contributors behind pseudonymous labels or combine exports with other sources for that purpose. Do not present another researcher's work as your own. Never send research data or raw support reports to external AI assistants, or place them in a public issue or code repository.

3. Accounts and coordination

Use your own account and keep devices locked and protected. Do not share credentials or let another person work while signed in as you. On a shared device, confirm sign-out and clear Bracket's site data; remove downloaded files separately.

Use chat for coordination and put research findings in notes. Members of the channel, including administrators, can read chat. Chat is not included in research exports and is deleted twelve months after the conference ends.

Do not scrape Bracket or connect an external service without the project owner's agreement. Coordinate source collection through the project owner; do not run independent automated requests against UNFCCC services on the project's behalf.

4. Source materials

Use the source collection for non-commercial research, within each publisher's conditions. Access to Bracket is not sold. Do not use the collection for paid consultancy products or commercial model training, or redistribute the collection outside the authorised team without permission.

Keep source documents unchanged. Report extraction errors and distinguish your annotations from the source. Cite individual documents by their official reference and follow the quotation and attribution conditions in Source materials. Permission to use the team's own writing does not grant rights over third-party documents.

5. Incidents and access

Report suspected unauthorised access, a lost device or an inappropriate disclosure promptly to contact@bracketresearch.org; early reporting limits harm. Give the information needed to locate the problem without copying research data into an unrelated service.

A serious or repeated breach can lead to suspended access. The project owner will explain the reason and how to raise a mistake. Data rights and earned credit remain available after access ends.
