About Bracket
Bracket is a notebook for anyone following a negotiation, in the room or online. It keeps your notes in step with the meeting: who had the floor, which paragraph was in question and what you made of it.
What it is
Bracket records who has the floor, ties each note to the moment and the paragraph it is about, and keeps the texts under negotiation a click away. It works on poor networks: notes save on your device first and sync when they can.
Who it is for
Anyone who follows a negotiation closely and needs a record of what was said and about which text: observers, delegation staff, journalists and researchers, whether they are in the room or following online. You can use it alone or with a team.
Where it starts
With the UN climate talks under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC): the sessions of the Conference of the Parties (COP) and of its subsidiary bodies. Bracket is designed for other multilateral negotiations too; until one is added, it holds only the climate talks’ meetings and texts.
What it records
Text only: no audio recording, no transcription and no photographs of meetings. In Bracket, your notes are readable by you alone until you choose to share a copy.
Research
Bracket also runs a research programme that studies how negotiations proceed inside meetings. Joining Bracket gives the programme no right to use your notes for research. If you choose, you can contribute reviewed notes to the Bracket Notes community, a research archive. The choice is yours alone and your account works the same either way. You can stop contributing, or withdraw what you have contributed, at any time, though a release already published cannot be recalled. The Research participation page explains what is contributed and how it is used.
Who runs it
Bracket is independent. It is not affiliated with the UNFCCC secretariat, any government or any delegation. The privacy notice says who is responsible for your information and how to reach them.
Joining
Bracket has no open sign-up. Each person is invited, by a team lead or by Bracket, and the invitation email sets up the account. To ask about joining, or about anything on this page, write to contact@bracketnotes.org.
